  • Objective: Children with upper limb agenesis typically receive Occupational Therapy (OT) intervention for very specific needs regarding occupations of daily living, like leisure activities. This study focuses on the creation of technical aids designed to play a musical instrument. Its goal is to underline the importance of the collaboration with the other professionals, especially music professionals, to create them.
Methods: Two kinds of population were interviewed for the study: two occupational therapists and three music professionals who worked with them.
Results: The results show the great importance of collaboration in the OT practice: with the medical staff, with the children, and with music professionals. Although this kind of collaboration remains very unusual, it has a positive impact on both corporations, and influences professional practices: thanks to the new insights provided by the music professionals, both of the occupational therapists adjusted the technical aids and used their new knowledge to improve other technical aids. It reveals as well that the collaboration can be limited by misconceptions about each other practices. To ensure a satisfying collaboration, the Occupational Therapists may have to communicate more clearly about their specificities and qualifications.
Conclusion: Collaboration is essential in the OT’s practice, regardless of the profession. Critical reflection on the findings highlights for further researches regarding the partnership with parents in patients care in paediatrics
