Introduction : L’entrée en EHPAD peut avoir un impact sur la santé mentale des personnes âgées et installer une forme de dépression engendrant un désengagement occupationnel de ces dernières. L’ergothérapeute va donc essayer de réintégrer les personnes âgées souffrant de dépression dans des occupations en utilisant une approche non-médicamenteuse. Ce mémoire vise donc à chercher si l’utilisation de la cynothérapie en ergothérapie va permettre de favoriser l’engagement occupationnel des personnes âgées souffrant de dépression suite à la transition occupationnelle de l’entrée en EHPAD.
Méthode : Afin de répondre à l’hypothèse, une étude qualitative a été menée par le biais de cinq entretiens. Ils ont été réalisés avec des ergothérapeutes exerçant en EHPAD auprès de personnes âgées souffrant de dépression et qui utilisent la cynothérapie dans leur pratique.
Résultats : L’enquête éprouve comme résultat un intérêt concernant l’utilisation de la cynothérapie en ergothérapie auprès des personnes âgées souffrant de dépression. Cela permet de favoriser l’engagement occupationnel de la personne âgée. Cependant, il existe divers facteurs limitant l’utilisation de cette médiation, ne permettant pas de favoriser l’engagement de ces personnes.
Conclusion : Pour conclure, l’hypothèse de cette étude est partiellement validée. Nous observons des limites concernant la faible quantité d’ergothérapeutes interrogés, ce qui n’est pas représentatif de la pratique de tous les ergothérapeutes en France. De plus, nous avons une hétérogénéité de la population interrogée par la présence de différentes formations en médiation animale ou par l’absence de formation.
Ce sujet de mémoire laisse entrevoir des possibilités de recherches concernant cette notion de relation de confiance en ergothérapie : aussi bien dans la collaboration avec l’entourage de la personne âgée ou la confiance que nous porte la personne âgée dans sa prise en soin.

Introduction: Moving into a nursing home can have an impact on the mental health of the older adults, leading to depression and disengagement from occupations. Occupational therapists will therefore try to reintegrate older adults suffering from depression into occupations using a non medicinal approach.
The aim of this dissertation is therefore to find out whether the use of therapy dogs in occupational therapy will make it possible to encourage the occupational engagement of older adults suffering from depression following the occupational transition when they enter in nursing home.
Method: In order to respond to the hypothesis, a qualitative study was carried out by means of five interviews. They were conducted with occupational therapists practising in France, who work or have worked in nursing homes with older adults suffering from depression and who use therapy dogs in their practice.
Results: The survey revealed an interest in the use of therapy dogs in occupational therapy with older adults suffering from depression. This helps to encourage the older adult’s occupational involvement.
However, there are various factors limiting the use of this mediation, which do not allow us to encourage the involvement of these people.
Conclusion: In conclusion, the hypothesis of this study is partially validated. We note limitations concerning the small number of occupational therapists interviewed, which is not representative of the practice of all occupational therapists in France. In addition, we have a heterogeneous population surveyed by the presence of different training in animal mediation or by the absence of training. The subject of this dissertation opens up possibilities for research into the notion of a relationship of trust in occupational therapy, both in terms of collaboration with the older adult’s family and friends, and in terms of the elderly person's trust in our care. - Créteil
