In rehabilitation service, occupational therapists provide care for people with cerebral stroke by
using different approaches. This research investigate variation in the transfer of skills when
using an occupation-based approach and/or a biopsychosocial model among people who have
had a stroke. A quantitative study involving a questionnaire sent to occupational therapists was
followed by a comparative analysis. The inferential tests performed on 51 responses appear to indicate not significant variation in the transfer of skills among cerebral stroke patients when using an occupation-based approach and/or a biopsychosocial model (r= 0.215 ; p-value = 0.129/ r = 0.084; p-value = 0.556). Occupational therapists’ satisfaction with the transfer of skills among patients increases significantly when they use occupation as a means and identify meaningful occupations (r = 0.285; p-value = 0.043 / r = 0.348; p-value = 0.012). The study highlights the importance of occupational therapists using appropriate teaching methods and ensuring that rehabilitation closely mirrors the patient’s daily life, in order to potentially
facilitate the transfer of learned skills. - Marseille
