Since the COVID-19 pandemic, mental health has become an increasingly
important issue in political and societal discourse in France, with a particular focus on
limiting the impact of mental health disorders on the occupational participation of those
persons affected (productivity, leisure activities, daily life). This research aims to
examine the place and role of the occupational therapist in the multidisciplinary care of
social anxiety in adults in France, and to identify the professional practices used in
order to assess whether psychosocial rehabilitation is the most appropriate approach
for limiting the impact of this disorder on occupational participation. Psychiatrists,
clinical psychologists and occupational therapists were therefore surveyed using
questionnaires. The 27 responses received confirmed the relevance of the
occupational therapist’s presence within the multidisciplinary team and the importance
of combining different therapeutic approaches, notably the psychodynamic approach
and psychosocial rehabilitation, along with their assessment tools and methods, in
order to best meet the specific needs of each patient. - IFE ADERE
