  • Introduction : Entering prison, due to the loss of personal bearings, isolation, and constraints specific to the prison environment, represents a significant break that can lead some inmates to experience psychological distress and contribute to the onset of a major depressive episode. In this context, occupational therapists working in psychiatric care units hold a specific role in supporting this population through an approach focused on the relationship between occupation and health. Objective : The objectif of this thesis is to understand how occupational therapists can be involved in the care specifically of incarcerated patients presenting with a major depressive episode upon their entry into prison. It is also a question of exploring how they can help reduce depressive symptoms, particularly by promoting occupational participation through meaningful and purposeful activities for the person. This work also aims to identify the objectives of occupational therapy interventions and the intervention methods used by occupational therapists. Method : A qualitative method was conducted to answer this question. Using semi-structured interviews. Four occupational therapists working with this population in this specific environment were interviewed in order to gather their differents experiences. Résultat : The results of the survey show that occupational therapists play an essential role in supporting this population, particularly through the use of creative therapeutic in the context of individual or group care. It appears that the therapeutic group in occupational therapy, through its dynamic, more strongly promotes the resumption of occupational participation among patients and contributes to the reduction of depressive symptoms. However, it should be noted that group work is only accessible to certain profiles of patients, with some requiring exclusively individual support.
