Le milieu carcéral est mal connu par la population générale. Sa fonction principale est la
privation de liberté, cela engendre un impact sur la performance occupationnelle des
détenus. Cependant, le handicap reste présent dans ce milieu comme la déficience
motrice. Le travail de ce mémoire vise à identifier la restriction de participation de cette
population et le rôle que l’ergothérapeute peut jouer.
Une méthode qualitative par entretiens a été menée pour répondre à ce questionnement.
Cinq ergothérapeutes professionnels issus du milieu pénitentiaire ont pu transmettre leur
expérience.
Les résultats de l’enquête montrent que le détenu en situation de déficience motrice est
limité dans ses occupations par un environnement global limitant telles que des difficultés
architecturales ou des difficultés d’accès aux aides humaines. L’ergothérapeute a un rôle
important à jouer pour faciliter l’accès à l’occupation des détenus en situation de
handicap moteur malgré un milieu ne facilitant pas leur pratique.

The prison environment is poorly understood by the general population. Its main function
is the deprivation of liberty, which has an impact on the occupational performance of
prisoners. However, disability remains present in this environment as motor impairment.
This thesis aims to identify the restriction of participation of this population and the role
that the occupational therapist can play.
A qualitative method using interviews was conducted to answer this question. Five
professional occupational therapists from the prison environment were able to share their
experience.
The results of the survey show that prisoners with motor impairments are limited in their
occupations by a limiting global environment such as architectural difficulties or
difficulties in accessing human aids. Occupational therapists have an important role to
play in facilitating access to occupations for detainees with motor disabilities despite an
