Introduction: Climate change is due to human occupations and represents the main threat to
health, according to the World Health Organization (WHO). The World Federation of Occupational
Therapists (WFOT) invites occupational therapists (OT) to adopt an eco-responsible approach in their professional practice and with clients. Research question: the objective of the survey was to define the tools by which the OT can contribute to the client’s engagement in an eco-responsible occupational transition. Method: Four semi-structured interviews were conducted with OTs who have an eco-responsible approach with their clients. Results: It has not been proven that the tools allowing a change in the beliefs of the client, based on the contribution of scientific evidence by the OT, could foster clients engagement in an eco-responsible occupational transition through a change in their values and lifestyle routines. The main obstacles cited are the lack of legitimacy felt by the OT interviewed and the duration of care which is too short to set up such support for the client. However, the training of occupational therapists on sustainable development and the implementation by health authorities of promotion campaigns and prevention programs for the public could help to remove these obstacles.
Conclusion: However, this survey showed that such support was possible, triggering a beginning of reflection both for the client and for the occupational therapist. It is now up to occupational therapists and OT institutions to take up the subject. - Créteil
