  • Scientific researches about Alzheimer’s disease are carrying on, but no preventive or curative
treatment does actually exist in order to fight against this neurofibrillar degeneration. Medical staff is
so brought to accompany people who are concerned until the end of their lives, and this, despite
disorders brought about by the pathology.
In the occupational therapist’s practice carried out among this population, the sensory and
cognitive stimulation, enabling to request residuals abilities, is holding a central place. This process
leads, on behalf of the professional, to a respectful and benevolent attitude. These two fundamental
notions of taking care are applied to Humanitude.
To what extent would the occupational therapist, by the choice of the sensory channels of
communication developed in the Humanitude’s philosophy, foster the commitment of the person
with Alzheimer's disease, in his/her daily activities ?
In order to respond to the problem, four semi-directive interviews with qualified
occupational therapists have been carried out. The latter were able to highlight the fact that the
sensory stimulation does not occur in a spontaneous way, but in a thoughtful one. It involves the
consideration of various factors and the consultation of diverse actors.
