Introduction : Les personnes polyhandicapées atteintes de paralysie cérébrale présentent des
troubles importants de la communication. La Haute Autorité de Santé affirme qu’elles peuvent
être sujettes à la souffrance psychique. Comment intégrer ces souffrances dans l’accompagnement
en ergothérapie ? Objectifs : Ce mémoire d’initiation à la recherche vise à comprendre la manière
avec laquelle l’ergothérapeute peut intégrer la souffrance psychique dans son accompagnement
auprès des adultes polyhandicapés atteints de paralysie cérébrale résidant en maison d’accueil
spécialisée. Méthodes : Pour y répondre, 2 pré-entretiens ont été réalisés avec 1 ergothérapeute et
1 psychologue du même établissement. 3 autres entretiens ont été menés auprès d’ergothérapeutes
exerçant ou ayant exercé en maison d’accueil spécialisée avec cette population. Résultats : Ces
professionnels ont exprimé l’importance d’être en lien avec la famille pour mieux connaître le
résident et la façon dont il communique. Ils évoquent la pertinence d’une collaboration étroite
avec les équipes professionnelles pour comprendre au mieux les demandes et les besoins du
résident. Selon eux, l’occupation est aussi un support à la communication, en apportant du bienêtre à la personne. Conclusion : L’occupation étroitement associée à la communication,
permettrait à l’adulte polyhandicapé atteint de paralysie cérébrale de décharger sa souffrance
psychique et de pouvoir accéder à un mieux-être, voire une meilleure autonomie dans sa vie
quotidienne.

Introduction : Multiple-disabled people affected by cerebral palsy have many communication
disorders. The Hight Authority of Health confirms that they can feel mental suffering. So how
integrates this suffering in occupational therapist accompaniment ? Aim : This initiation to research
thesis tries to know how occupational therapist could integrate this mental suffering in the
accompaniment of multiple-disabled adults affected by cerebral palsy resident in house of reception
specialized. Methods : To answer to this research, 2 interviews tests were realised upon 1
occupational therapist and 1 psychologist from the same house of reception specialized. By the way, 3
other interviews were done with 3 occupational therapists working or worked in those structures with
this population. Results : Professionals explain that to be in link with families allows to better
understand the resident. Then, collaborating with the others professionals’ teams helps to compare all
points of view and to find the real needs and wishes of residents. In fact, communication is associated
to the mental suffering. The association of occupations and communication allows the occupational
therapists to understand what makes residents feel better and happier. Conclusion : As the
occupation is related to communication, an occupational therapist could accompany multiple-disabled
residents with cerebral palsy, providing them well-being and autonomy in their own life. - IFE ADERE
