  • Traumatic brain injury is a major public health issue. Young adults between 18 and 25 years of age are the most affected. The legacy of acquired brain injury cause many difficulties in their daily living. This research is particularly interested in the issue of social participation when these people return home. Occupational therapy has its place in responding to this problem, however, the current organization of health care does not fully address the issue. This research question is as follows : How can a community-based approach to occupational therapy support the long-term social participation of young people with traumatic brain injury ? Questionnaires and interviews were conducted to identify the potential of community-based approach with occupational therapist and caseworker.
The results were able to show a positive trend in the use of the community-based approach to the problem. However, the results are not really representative of current practice in occupational therapy.
This research has made it possible to identify a new approach strategy in order to respond to public health issues in France.
