Une situation rencontrée en stage nous a interpellé. Elle associe le trouble du spectre de l’autisme à des difficultés de communication et de compréhension. La gestion de cet évènement, nous a posé problème, et nous avons souhaité développer nos connaissances sur le sujet, afin de ne plus être désarmé et d’apporter des perspectives d’évolution dans une situation similaire.
L’objectif de cette étude est d’explorer, quels sont les déterminants qui influencent l’utilisation d’un outil de communication par des enfants atteints du trouble du spectre autistique, à leur domicile.
Pour examiner le terrain actuel, nous avons fait le choix de nous entretenir avec des ergothérapeutes ayant le profil recherché, c’est-à-dire assurant le suivi d’accompagnement d’enfants autistes. Les échanges individuels basé sur un entretien semi-structuré ont été enregistrés et retranscrits. L’analyse de ces discussions associée à nos recherches bibliographiques ont révélé certains des déterminants qui influencent l’utilisation d’un outil de communication par ces enfants à leur domicile.
Nous avons pu constater que ces déterminants varient en fonction de la situation de l’enfant. Certains lui sont propres, alors que d’autres impliquent sa famille, ses proches et son lieu de vie. Le rôle du professionnel est d’accompagner l’enfant et son entourage vers l’acquisition d’un outil de communication.
Ce constat permet d’amorcer une guidance pour les professionnels qui suivent des enfants autistes et qui souhaitent adapter ou modifier leur accompagnement.

We came across a particular situation during the internship. This case is about a teenager with autism spectrum disorder, who has difficulties of communication and understanding. This case caught my attention and it was difficult to find a good approach to it. That's why we want to develop our knowledge of this theme by bringing new perspectives in, so no one has to face this kind of situation without the proper communication tools.
The purpose of this study is to explore the determining factors influencing the use of communication tool at home with children and younger people with the autism spectrum disorder.
For this study, occupational therapists working with these persons and assuring their accompaniment were recruited. Participants were individually interviewed using a semi-structured questionnaire. Interviews were audio-taped, transcribed verbatim and reviewed. Thanks to the data collected associated with our bibliographic researches, the analysis showed the determining factors influencing the use of communication tool at home with children and younger people with a trouble of the autism spectrum.
We noticed that some of those factors are proper to the children, others implicate his family and his surroundings. The goal for the professionals is to accompany the child and his family towards the gain of a communication tool that would fit his environment.
The results of this study will help design a blueprint of possibilities for occupational therapists, who will adapt or change their accompanying. - IFE de Toulouse
