- In France, the ageing of the population brings new concerns to the political and public health authorities. The French, especially, wish to live as long as possible at home. Thus, prevention of the loss of autonomy represents a national stake in favor of "aging well" at home. Currently, occupational therapists are recognized as prevention actors, especially in the prevention of falls through home improvement. However, beyond a suitable physical environment, home support implies that the person retains a social role and activities outside the home. Social isolation is an underestimated factor in the deterioration of health and the institutionalization of aging people. Therefore, in our inductive experiment, we seek to know what the role of the occupational therapist is in the primary prevention in favor of the social participation of aging people. That’s why we interviewed five occupational therapists carrying out preventive actions in favor of home care for aging people. It appears that occupational therapists have a role in preventing social isolation mainly through falls prevention, coordination and multidisciplinary collaboration. However, the timing of their preventive interventions is not only primary.
