Introduction : Les enfants polyhandicapés présentent de nombreuses déficiences motrices et intellectuelles, et ont besoin d’un suivi spécifique au sein de structure adaptée telle que les IME par exemple. Les ergothérapeutes interviennent dans la prise en charge de l’enfant afin de préconiser une installation et un positionnement adapté. L’objectif de ce travail de recherche est de savoir si le positionnement, préconisé par les ergothérapeutes, permet d’améliorer la participation de l’enfant dans son quotidien.
Méthode : Quatre entretiens d’ergothérapeutes ont été réalisés pour identifier leur méthode de travail et recueillir leur opinion sur l’impact du positionnement sur la participation de l’enfant dans ses activités de vie quotidienne.
Résultats : Les résultats de l’enquête montrent que les ergothérapeutes, par leurs différentes pratiques, parviennent grâce à l’installation, à favoriser le changement de comportement de l’enfant. Pour y parvenir, ils évaluent l’enfant dans sa globalité (facteurs personnels, environnement physique et social), intègrent les parents dans le projet d’installation ainsi que les équipes. En prenant en compte les besoins de l’enfant, l’enquête montre que l’installation favorise l’éveil, les relations, les interactions voire même la participation sociale de l’enfant dans son quotidien.
Conclusion : L’ergothérapeute, par son regard clinique et ses objectifs d’installation, favorise l’interaction voire la participation de l’enfant polyhandicapé par la mise en place d’une installation adaptée et spécifique lui permettant d’agir sur son environnement.

Introduction : Children with multiple disabilities have many deficiencies like mobility and intellectual impairment. They need a specific treatment requiring an adapted institution like IME (Medical Educational Institute) for example. Occupational Therapist operates in the management of the children in order to recommend a wheelchair installation with specific equipment and an adapted positioning. The purpose of this research is to know if the positioning, recommended by the Occupational Therapist (OT), improves the child’s participation in their daily life.
Method : Four interviews of OTs were conducted to identify their method of work and to collect their opinions on the impact of positioning on the child’s participation in their activities of daily living.
Results : The results of the survey show that O.T, by their different practices, manage, thanks to the installation, to favour the behaviour’s change of the child. To achieve this, they evaluate the child as a whole (personal factors, physical and social environment), integrate the parents in the installation project as well as the teams. Taking into account the needs of the child, the survey shows that the facility promotes the awakening, relationships, interactions and even social participation of the child in their daily life.
Conclusion : The O.T, by a specific clinic approach and their objectives of installation, need to promote the interaction or the participation of the child with multiple disabilities by setting up an adapted and specific positioning allowing them to act on their environment. - UPEC
